Australia, The Land Of Opportunity For Engineers

Saturday, June 12th, 2010

Australia isn’t a country you would typically associate with leading edge engineering skills and technical innovation. Australia, however, is full of surprises and in fact boasts many firsts. These include the mechanical refrigerator, the black-box-flight recorder, the bionic ear (cochlear implant), the pace maker, the electric drill, and the combine harvester. In fact Australia’s output of inventive genius is far beyond what you would expect – given that the population size barely exceeds 20 million people (source: Australian Bureau of Statistics).

The demand for engineers

As a place to work, Australia must be amongst the most exciting for an engineer – no matter the discipline. The booming economy has a strong technology focus, and vast amounts are invested in research and development. However, there is a shortage of engineers which limits what firms are able to do. According to the engineering body “Engineers Australia” the current vacancy rate is estimated at 20%. The demand for engineers applies to a wide range of engineering disciplines including: Mining engineers, electrical engineers, civil engineers, chemical engineers and mechanical engineers. These are on the “Migration Occupations in Demand List” (MODL) and are therefore amongst the most sought after professions in Australia.

High levels of remuneration

Engineering salaries are very competitive. For instance, entry level mining engineers earn annual salaries ranging from A$95,000 to A$105,000, while management level engineers’ earnings range from approximately A$175,000 to A$210,000.

The door is wide open

Australia utilises a points system to determine whether a visa is issued. Given the shortages, engineers are viewed in a favourable light when applying for a visa. Engineers holding qualifications of the type listed on the MODL list, earn between 15 to 20 points (depending on whether or not the applicant has a job offer).

A fairly new Visa, labelled the 457 Visa is one of the best options for obtaining temporary residence in Australia. The visa is sponsored in part by your employer. The employer covers your return trip costs as well as your medical expenses. The 457 Visa allows you to stay in Australia for up to four years. In addition your spouse, partner and/or children may accompany you on this Visa. After 24 months you are permitted to apply for citizenship should you so desire.

The 457 Visa affords you most of the rights (and duties) of an ordinary Australian citizen, including access to an excellent healthcare system. Rights which do not apply include the right to vote and jury duty.

At present Australia is a land of opportunity for those with the right skills, an opportunity which should not be missed! Australia offers the ideal lifestyle. A pleasant climate, wide-open spaces, and beautiful coastlines enhance life quality. Those who enjoy the outdoors are sure to feel right at home. The infrastructure is first class, crime rates are low and the education system is amongst the best in the world.

Software Engineers: Professionals on Your Side

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

More and more companies are outsourcing their IT tasks to software engineers and are reaping the benefits of lower costs and more productivity. But what exactly do software engineers do? How can they help your company? What are the qualifications and skills of this up and coming career path? Here are just a few of the services a qualified software engineer offers and how they can change your business for the better.

* Software Design: Software engineers are professional software developers with plenty of knowledge about writing software for specific uses. Whether you have an existing program that you want customized to your needs or you need a custom program written specifically for you, a software engineer is the answer. They can complete both tasks with expertise that you likely won’t be able to find and hire internally without paying a lot of money.

* Software Implementation: Finding new software is one thing, properly implementing it is a completely different story. Because software is only part of a larger technology system, a software engineer will help you install, upload data, and deal with compatibility issues. They can help you identify necessary training that should be completed as well as existing processes or applications that are out of date and should be updated with the new software.

* Software Maintenance: Although it continues to improve, no software is tbe kind of thing that can be installed and left alone for the rest of its useful life. Like any system, software requires maintenance. A software engineer can tell you what kind of upkeep costs you can expect in the future and what maintenance services will extend the usable life of your technology. They may also be able to help with the routine maintenance instead of hiring the software vendor, saving you money.

* System Compatibility: Your software does not exist in a vacuum; it has to function with a variety of technology and other hardware. Selecting new software is as much about finding the right features as it is finding software that will “play nice” with your existing infrastructure, processes, and applications. A software engineer can help you address and mitigate compatibility issues, sometimes before they even arise.

* Debugging: We all know the feeling of being completely powerless when software goes down. If your computer system is consistently down or slow, you are losing valuable time and productivity. A software engineer can evaluate your system and help you make the changes that will make marked improvements in efficiency and accuracy. The result? More efficient operations, less down time, and more time spent creating value and revenue for your organization.

Is a software engineer the team member who can turn your business around? You bet! Many business owners have found that a few consultations with one of these professionals have changed technology from a frustration to an invaluable tool. There is no doubt that the efficient use of technology can have huge impacts on a company’s performance, but many companies do not know how to take that next step to better improve their use of technology. If you want to get information technology and software working for you instead of against you, your next call should be to a qualified software engineer.

Computer Software Engineers – The Brain Behind the Software

Friday, February 6th, 2009

Computer software engineers are people who are qualified professionals working behind the scene to bring us the latest in the software technology. The technology being almost a part and parcel of our daily routine we look forward for their latest development unknowingly. Their developments can more often than not be used beneficially in our lives. The computer software being a fast developing field it has become almost impossible to keep up with the daily developments. So in the present day the job of computer software engineers do require specialization in a particular field to keep abreast of changing technology.

This means if we want to know what is the latest technology to be had in a certain area, then instead of asking any software engineers we will get the right information only if we ask specialized engineers in that particular area. Even though the other engineers might be able to give you an abstract idea of the developments they may be way off the hook in providing you with the best information. Not many people are aware of such difference in software developments so they choose the wrong engineers and end up getting mediocre results from the service they bought. This might be one of the reasons why they do not find the same deliverance for the same issue of a next door neighbor.

There is no uniform software package to be followed, different industry have different needs so the software engineers should learn skill sets of each industry and develop packages for their need. This is not a simple process one has to spend days and months of experimenting and testing to bring out top notch products in the definite area they concentrate. Actual what we get as a simple final product are the result of months of hard toil. Never do we think on this aspect when we discard some of these developments as outdated. There are hundreds of companies employing software engineers to come up with top quality software deliverance to reap the profits when it is really hot. Good computer software engineers are actually experts in their area of system deployment. The operational software system is actually the end result of the engineers transforming mechanical, electrical or computer system into a package easily usable by us.

It is the software engineers who perform all the activities behind the functional system available for use. So if we can seek out good software engineers we can use their deployment for quality products. Once we choose an experienced software engineer to build us a software system to suit our particular need we can be assured of systems quality because they might have tried and tested the system package many times over. They know the basics of what we require and they can also customize it for us to the way we find it easy to use. The situation being so they may also be able to smell a new idea when you take them to it for your needs.

So where is the catch – simply in finding efficient computer software engineers…?
